The Times newspaper has a very insightful piece today on Bernard Arnault. It’s behind the pay wall I’m afraid but I thought I would share this nugget.
It’s a quote from Antoine Arnault talking about his father’s approach to designers;
“Designers are not artists. They may have the talent of one, but if they want to work in that way they should paint or sculpt. Here (LVMH) they’re working in business and they need a brief. That’s what my father does so well. I’ve witnessed him do it countless times and I am really inspired by that.”
In other words nothing comes out of the LVMH stable by accident. Designers design to the needs of the marketplace. That’s why Arnault can deliver products that delight the customer AND the financial markets. Nothing is left to chance.
