App in the Air

This evening I was lucky enough to be invited along to The Hospital Club by British Airways to hear about their latest smartphone app offering.

Airlines often don’t get enough credit for their none aviation innovation endeavours and, in this case, BA deserve strong praise.

Not one but 3 Apps designed for Android, Blackberry and iPhone devices. As you would expect the iPhone version was the most feature rich including an on-screen boarding pass.

They will start rolling this out from Monday on the LHR to EDI Shuttle – too bad my visit north on Tuesday is by train !!!

Slick and intuitive this app is one which is going to appeal to the frequent flyer. It keeps your old boarding passes on device until you decide to purge then.

The only drawback I can see is that I like using boarding passes as bookmarks ! But then if you’re reading your books on an iPad there is no need !

Good apps served up well to the people who BA know will both use and talk about this innovation. A clever event.
