As I boarded BA112 JFK – LHR this evening the BA gate agent wished the woman ahead of me a ‘belated happy birthday’. When she got to me she wished me a ‘Happy Birthday for tomorrow’.
That attention to detail was appreciated by me on two levels – one, it means she was actually scrutinising the passport details and, two, she was engaging her customer.
On board the plane the whole concept of ‘loving your job’ took another twist. In Club World a uniformed BA Captain took my jacket and then returned a few minutes later having spotted my spectacles in the top pocket. Over on the other aisle a very young man looked like he was wearing his first suit but he too performed the roles of a flight attendant. Two people that love their job so much that they are doing someone elses ! So far they are doing an impressive job of showing that BA can overcome industrial action by the flight attendant union.
All things considered it’s better all round to love your job.
