Suicide is painless…

….well it is if you are a politician.      Today the political news in the US was, for a time, dominated by a  Sen Charles Grassley, the Republican Senator from Iowa suggesting in a radio interview that AIG executives followed “the Japanese example”  and  ”Come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I’m sorry and then either do one of two things, resign or go commit suicide.”

Without doubt the payment of bonuses (using taxpayers dollars) to employees of  the American International Group who have failed spectacularly in their roles is morally if not legally questionable but the ever increasing strident calls from politicians on both sides of The Atlantic are beginning to sound a little hollow.

What were they all doing when things started to go wrong ?   Asleep at the switch for sure.
